God will deal with coaches who are poaching my players – Hunt

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt says some of his counterparts are breaching protocol in their attempt to lure his players to their clubs by directly calling the players instead of approaching the club.

Hunt said as recent as Tuesday when he was preparing his team for the Absa Premiership clash with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, a coach in the top flight called one his players to supposedly ask if they would like to dump The Students and join that particular coach’s team.

However, Hunt says he will not report anyone to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and he will leave everything in God’s hands.

“Every single day and today (Tuesday) before this game, one of my players got a phone call from a coach, it is unbelievable. So I just do my thing and I just keep going,” Hunt told reporters.

“The players are honest with me, they tell me and I tell them to keep going. I can’t fight and it is no good reporting people to the PSL, there is the man upstairs who will punish you,” he added.

The four-time top-flight league winning coach’s team are sitting third on the log with two games in hand over leaders Kaizer Chiefs and the team has been reliant on striker Gift Motupa, who has banged in four league goals so far.

Hunt said he expected a lot more from the forward, who missed a couple of chances against the Brazilians on Tuesday.

“He has got to do more and it is not just about scoring, it is about working for the team and doing holding the ball for the team and doing the other parts and all of that stuff.”
