Phakaaathi takes a look at the five talking points from Absa Premiership and Caf games this past weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs handed Cape Town City a 3-0 drubbing to open up a nine points lead at the top of the Absa Premiership standings. It was not a convincing display by Amakhosi, but they did get the job done.
Mamelodi Sundowns continued their impressive showing in the Caf Champions League with a 2-1 win over USM Alger of Algeria over the weekend. This win saw the Brazilians qualify for the quarterfinals with two games to spare.
Baroka FC edged neighbours Polokwane City 1-0 in a dull Limpopo derby on Saturday. Overall, the game failed to live up to expectations, but Bakgaga would be happy with a win that saw them move away from the bottom of the log standings.
SuperSport United registered a crucial 2-0 win over AmaZulu at the Kings Park Stadium on Sunday to stay in the race for the league honours. The win saw United move to 31 points, 10 points shy of log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
Having lost 3-0 to Kaizer Chiefs midweek, Highlands Park were looking to bounce back to winning ways at home against Stellenbosch FC. However, Owen Da Gama’s men suffered an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Stellies at home.
