Eymael reveals Pirates link

Eymael returned to the PSL to join Lidoda Duvha after spending a season coaching Tala’ea El Gaish SC in Egypt, before that the 60-year-old help Free State Stars win the Nedbank Cup and attracted interest from Chiefs.

The outspoken coach fell out with Ea Lla Koto management over a reported move to Chiefs.

The Belgian coach revealed that he almost joined Pirates back in 2013 while coaching in Kenya, but the deal fell through in its final stages.

Reports suggesting Eymael was once earmarked by Pirates grew legs with speculation that Rulani Mokwena is on his way out of the Buccaneers ship due to the club’s poor form after the departure of Micho Sredojevic, but Eymael explained that he was linked to Pirates back in 2013 and he was committed to coaching Leopards at the moment.

“It was in 2013, we didn’t reach the agreement, we couldn’t conclude in the end. But it helped me know South Africa and the PSL better. Once we (Pirates) forced an agreement nothing was concrete in the end, but I already spoke about this two years ago,” Eymael told reporters.
