Ex-Safa boss hit by a Khune imposter

According to the Sunday Sun, Nonkonyana was led to believe that he was entering into a partnership with Khune for a football development programme in the OR Tambo District.

The fraudster disappeared after Nonkonyana deposited R40 000 into his account.

“A case of fraud was opened in July after the complainant, Mr Nonkonyana, was called by a prominent soccer player who promised him a sponsor of an expensive luxury vehicle,” police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni was quoted as saying by the Sunday Sun.

“The person said the complainant should deposit money to assist with the registration and transfer of vehicle ownership. After he deposited sums of money, the complainant became suspicious and a case of fraud was opened in Bisho.

Nonkonyana confirmed that he was tricked and only realised that when he contacted Khune to enquire about the development programme.

“I believed it was Khune,” said Nonkonyana.

“Upon making the deposit, I called Chiefs. I then spoke to him and we agreed I should open a criminal case.”
