Ellis opens Banyana door for Semenya

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says she has talked to Olympic Champion Caster Semenya about the possibility of playing for the South African women’s team.

Semenya is set to kick start her football career in 2020 after signing for Sasol League side JVW Girls football club in September.

Ellis says she always invites Semenya to Banyana camps to motivate her players as they all look up to the athlete for her achievements.

“Caster and I have chatted for a long while, I have always invited her to come down and inspire the girls because we look up to her through all the adversity she has gone through she still succeeds, she is own beacon of hope,” said Ellis.

“I have not seen Caster training or play, but you will never know what you can find so I am looking forward to seeing what Caster can do,” said Ellis when responding to rumours that she could include Semenya in the Banyana Banyana squad in the future.
