The Kenyan midfielder has travelled to South Africa after he was linked with a move to Chiefs following his departure from Zambian side Zesco United.
Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung confirmed they had earmarked a few players they would like to sign in the January transfer window but refused to reveal the names of the players. Motaung revealed that his side were close to concluding the deal with one player who could be unveiled in the next two weeks.
Akumu has been linked with Chiefs since leaving United in December when the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement of a new deal.
The 27-year-old is believed to be in South Africa to put pen to paper with Chiefs. The Naturena-based club will have to release one of the five foreign players they have registered this season for Akumu to join the Amakhosi.
