McCarthy is expected to be named as Eric Tinkler’s successor after Tinkler quit to join SuperSport United last week.
According to Sport24, McCarthy arrived in Cape Town on Friday to discuss the possibility of him coaching the citizens with club boss John Comitis.
The 39-year-old has completed his UEFA A coaching licence and has expressed a desire to coach a PSL side.
Commits has stated that he is searching for Tinkler’s replacement, and has already selected a coach after promising to unveil a coach on Tuesday.
“The new coach will be of the same mind [as Tinkler] in terms of the type of players we have purchased and the way Cape Town City wants to play.
“The coach we select will pick up the momentum we have created. With the homework I have done‚ I believe I have possibly found a gem.”
