Coach MacDonald Makhubedu issued an apology to the Amakhosi family for his outburst in a post-match interview after their Nedbank Cup tie at Kabokweni Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Makhubedu made a U-turn on his rant, where he lambasted Chiefs’ poor performance against his team after Komphela demanded the PSL take action against him for his comments when his side was booted out of the Nedbank Cup.
“I am very sorry,” he tells KickOff.com
”I want to apologise to the chairman of Kaizer Chiefs Mr Kaizer Motaung, Bobby Motaung, the office of Kaizer Chiefs, Steve Komphela, his technical team and the players.
“I never meant to say those words. I was overcome by emotions. I was unhappy with the way the match was handled. There are things that happened in the tunnel leading to the game. My players were elbowed deliberately, and I did not expect that from Kaizer Chiefs players.
“There was a red card given to my player [Bongani Nyathi]. I have lost Mlungiso Nkosi for the next three months after he was elbowed during the match. [Mudzunga] Sidumo is also out with an injury.
“Now I have got players out for the play-offs. Really, I didn’t expect Kaizer Chiefs players to play dirty games during the match. I was hurting. I was totally not happy the way the match was handled.
“I want to say sorry again to Steve, the players, management. I also want to apologise to the PSL, Safa and the media. Steve is still my senior. It was not my intention to say those words. It was hurtful.”
