Smith named SA hockey player of the year
National team captain Austin Smith was named the South African Player of the Year on Monday, after leading his team through the qualifiers to participate in last year's Olympic Games.

The senior men’s side won the gold medal at the Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Japan, in May 2012, and finished in 11th place at the London Games.
Captain Marsha (née Marescia) Cox was the Women’s Player of the Year, after her team successfully competed in the Olympic qualifiers in India, in February last year, and finished in 10th place at the 2012 Olympic Games.
