It’s largely due to the fact that he prides himself on being a fighter who is never afraid to shy away from a challenge – a theory he will look to prove when he meets Joey Vegas at Emperors Palace on Saturday night.
In his last two outings, “The Lion” showed he is capable of putting low-grade opponents away and his bout against Vegas, for the vacant WBC international light-heavyweight title, will be a serious test of his unbeaten credentials.
It will also mean that he puts his 14-0 record on the line and will look to further his ambitions of progressing up the WBC ratings, one of the most prominent organisations, in the hopes of securing more lucrative bouts.
Vegas, a Ugandan based in Britain, has mixed it with big names in bouts against Nathan Cleverly, Dmytro Kucher and Edison Miranda and while he lost against all three, he will come into the bout on the “African Explosion” bill with plenty of experience.
“This guy is a top-rated fighter. He’s up there with the biggest names in boxing and I feel this is my time,” said Liebenberg.
