The Stormers said Friday they would appeal the eight-week suspension handed to lock Adre Smith, following a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.
The hearing convened to consider a citing against Smith resulting from the United Rugby Championship match against Munster last weekend.
Smith – who is on loan from Griquas – was charged with biting an opponent.
The lock has the right to appeal the decision and intends to exercise that right once the written findings of the hearing have been provided.
The disciplinary panel upheld the citing on Thursday after Smith failed to prove on the balance of probabilities that foul play had not occurred and selected a low range entry point.
As a result, Smith has been handed an eight-game ban.
