Controversial former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers is, after almost seven years, back in international rugby.
But his new gig probably can’t be classified as a big one.
The 60-year-old, famous (or infamous depending on one’s view) for his zany comments, on Wednesday was appointed the new head coach of Zimbabwe.
In what can be interpreted as a swipe at the South African Rugby Union (Saru), De Villiers was quoted as saying at his unveiling that his appointment is “the greatest day of my life”.

4 of Divvy’s best quotes as Bok coach:
‘I am going to pull a rat out of the hat’
‘There is little difference between winning and losing except you feel better after winning.’
‘Tongue in cheek I can say you don’t go to war and mount a cannon on a canoe, so I think we will take the big guns.’
‘Look, if you go to a black mechanic and he doesn’t fix your car, you don’t go back. If you go to a white mechanic and he doesn’t fix your car, you go back and make sure he fixes the problem.’

De Villiers was in the news again last week after he said in a radio interview that he had warned Allister Coetzee about taking the Springbok coaching job, intimating that they had given Coetzee the same limited resources and support as he was afforded.

De Villiers coached the Boks from 2008 and 2011 and did have the honour of beating the All Blacks five times during that period, twice in New Zealand.
