Rising prop star McBeth swaps Lions for Glasgow Warriors

Another promising young South African rugby player has opted to continue his career in Scotland.

Lions prop Nathan McBeth, who has played for both the South African and Scotland Under-20 teams, will be available for Glasgow Warriors with immediate effect, having left the Joburg-based union.

McBeth follows in the footsteps of several other South Africans who have moved to Scotland in recent years, including Josh Strauss, WP Nel, Duhan van der Merwe, Ollie Kebble, Kyle Steyn and Dylan Richardson, who hasn’t moved to Scotland but made himself available to the national team.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to join the Warriors,” McBeth, who stands 1.9 metres tall and tips the scales at 118kg, said to the Warriors website about his new adventure.

“It will be an honour to represent them over the next few years and I can’t wait to meet the team and start training. It’s a dream come true for me.”

Glasgow coach Danny Wilson said: Nathan is a player we’ve had our eye on for some time. He’s a physical ball-carrier and a young man who is willing to learn and improve his game.

“To be able to add a young, Scottish-qualified prop of his calibre is a real boost and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do.”
