The Blitzboks were knocked out of the Toulouse Sevens title race after defeat to Argentina in the cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
Trailing 7-0 at half time, the Blitzboks battled as the Argentines raced into a 21-0 lead after the restart. James Murphy pulled two tries back for the South Africans, but it was too little, too late and the South Americans held on for a 21-12 win.
Marcos Moneta dotted down either side of the break before Luciano Gonzalez crossed the whitewash. Santiago Vera Feld added the extras.

South Africa will now face Australia in the fifth-placed semi-final at 12:48pm on Sunday.
