What is Rassie Erasmus up to now?
SA Rugby’s director off rugby is a big fan of social media and engaging with rugby supporters and over the weekend the recently banned rugby director, and sometimes coach and waterboy, posted a cryptic message on his twitter account.
Erasmus says in a tweet he is ready to “share my side of the story” — whatever that might mean.
One can assume it has something to do with his recent banning by World Rugby.
Erasmus was barred from being involved with the Springboks for two months and will also not be allowed to be part of the Boks on matchdays until September next year.
The hearing for Erasmus and subsequent suspension came about after Erasmus made a 62-minute video criticising the match officials who handled the first Test between the Springboks and British and Irish Lions back in July.
It seems Erasmus and SuperSport will once again team up to make a documentary, most possibly about the Springboks’ recent 2-1 series win against the Lions, but it seems there will also be a big chunk dedicated to the now infamous video saga.
Erasmus and SA Rugby initially said they would appeal against the ban and fine imposed for the video and comments made by the director of rugby, but they back-tracked last week and said they’d accept the sanctions meted out.
Erasmus and the Bok management and SuperSport have worked on a documentary before, the award-winning Chasing the Sun, about the Boks’ road to World Cup glory in 2019.
