Willemse signs for Stormers for three more years

Western Province and the Stormers have managed to hang on to Springbok World Cup-winning utility back Damian Willemse.
The backline star has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him in Cape Town until 2024.
The Bulls, under the leadership of director of rugby Jake White, were hoping to lure the versatile player to Loftus Versfeld.
Willemse, a star at schoolboy level, made his Stormers debut in Super Rugby at the age of 18 in 2017 and went on to win the Currie Cup with Western Province later that same year. He has so far earned 40 Stormers caps, and is still just 22 years old.

Stormers coach John Dobson said that securing a player of Willemse’s talents for the next three years is very encouraging.
“Damian is the kind of player that every coach would love to work with, he has natural ability in abundance and works incredibly hard,” said Dobson on Friday.
“We are all looking forward to working with him to keep improving so that he is able to reach his considerable potential and help us play the brand of eye-catching rugby that our fans want to see.”
