Now in it’s 14th year, the event is set to take place from November 14 to 17 this year on the layout at The Lost City at the Sun City resort and the bar has been set even higher in terms of the fundraising goals.
Proceeds from the event, which bring together some of the biggest past and present names in sport, entertainment and business, are used to uplift several communities through a range of initiatives and proceeds from last year’s event surpassed R40-million.
The Gary Player Invitational series has already had stops in Shanghai, the US and at London’s famous Wentworth golf course this year and the South African leg will be the last of what has been a successful fund-raising drive.
“Being at Sun City is a very special privilege,” Player, who was a key figure in developing the golf course at the resort, said at yesterday’s announcement before touching on the positive influence that the charitable efforts of the Gary Player Foundation, which is now in its 30th year of existence, is having.
“I am thrilled that Sun City will host the final leg of our global GPI series, which has experienced another record breaking fundraising year for The Player Foundation,” Player said.
“It’s so wonderful to see these young people in South Africa benefiting from this event.”
