Knockouts dominate the bill

Knockouts proved to be the order of the evening as BRD Promotions presented their box and dine bill at Gold Reef City on Thursday night.

In the headline bout, former Olympian Jackson Chauke ended proceedings quickly as he stopped Charity Mukondeleli inside three rounds of their flyweight contest with his speed and class proving too much for his opponent, who was deposited on his backside with a sweet left hook.

Mukondeleli managed to survive the count but the onslaught continued, forcing trainer Bernie Pailman to throw in the towel at 1:31 of the third round.

There was also a third round stoppage win for Walter Dlamini as he maintained his unbeaten record by cutting short Charles Musafiri’s evening.

Heavy shots snapped Musafiri’s head back on several occasions and from early on it was apparent that the middleweight bout wasn’t going to go the scheduled six rounds

Referee Wally Snowball was forced to jump between the two fighters and wave off the action at 2:35 into the third as “The Black Mamba” picked his opponent apart and bounced him from one side of the ring to the other.

In a light-heavyweight clash, another former Olympian in Ghana’s Maxwell Amponsah proved far too strong for last-minute opponent Daniel Mpinga, with a perfectly timed right uppercut finishing his opponent just on the two minute mark in the first round.

There was also a knockout win for Deon Coetzee in his cruiserweight clash against Khayeni Hlongwane. Coetzee took his career statistics to 7-4 as he wore down an opponent who only boxed for brief periods as the rounds wore on.

The turning point came in the fourth as Coetzee scored a knockdown with his barrage of hooks and upper cuts doing the most damage before a bod shot 48 seconds into round five hurt Hlongwane and he failed to beat the count.
