His two-under-par total for the day meant that he moved to nine-under for the event following a blistering opening round 63.
De Jager’s birdied the par-five third hole before dropping a shot one hole later, but birdies on the fifth and seventh holes meant he went out under par for his round. The tournament leader dropped a shot on the par-three 11th hole before picking up a birdie on the 17th.
There was a climb up the leaderboard for Jaco Ahlers following an impressive round of 65 as he improved on his opening score of one-over par to move into second place, five shots behind the leader.
Botswana’s Stuart Smith joined Ahlers in a share for second after his round of one-under-par 69.
