Kevin Anderson marches on at US Open

But now comes the hard part for him: the fourth round, the stage where he tends to stumble a lot in Grand Slams.

Resurgent tennis player Kevin Anderson continued his fine run of form with another dominant performance at the US Open on Friday night.

The big-serving South African earned a 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory over 20-year-old Croatian prospect Borna Coric, reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the third time this year.

Anderson, who progressed to the last eight at Flushing Meadows in 2015, was set to face Paolo Lorenzi of Italy for a place in the quarter-finals.

Having overcome multiple injury struggles which derailed his 2016 season, Anderson again proved he was back to his best.

After reaching the final of the Washington Open last month, an ATP 500 series event, he was putting up another strong fight as the only SA player left in the main draw at the prestigious annual tournament in New York.

It was the 11th time in his career he made it to the fourth round of a Grand Slam event.

Doubles specialist Raven Klaasen, also a former US Open quarter-finalist, and American partner Rajeev Ram were eliminated in their first-round contest earlier in the week by Lorenzi and Brazil’s Rogerio Dutra da Silva (6-4 6-4).
