Last week, Anderson climbed four places and equalled his career-high 17th position, but this week, he dropped straight back down, but still clings onto a top-20 position.
Anderson was defeated in the opening round of the ATP Masters in Cincinnati last week, where American 14th seed John Isner defeated him 3-6, 4-6.
The South African had achieved a ranking of 17 in July, after reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon.
