When Mythical Bolt won his maiden on Summer Cup day, it appeared Sean Tarry had another top sprinter in his stable.
He certainly has the pedigree.
He is by Captain Al out of Lightning Bird, a full sister to Mythical Flight. Tarry then took him to Cape Town and while it would be unfair to say he was disappointing, he did fail to win a race at Kenilworth.
He took on a decent fi eld of sprinters in his fi rst outing in the Cape, the Non-Black Type Need For Speed Sprint over 1000m.
He showed lots of pace but failed to quicken and ended up in seventh spot, 5.90 lengths behind Pleased-tomeetyou. He then contested two handicap races over 1200m and fi nished third in both, but beaten just 0.30-lengths in the fi rst and 1.75 lengths in the second.
Mythical Bolt is now back on the Highveld and will be lining up in Race 8 at the Vaal tomorrow, a MR 83 Handicap over 1200m.
In his last race in the Cape, Tarry ran the colt in blinkers and he will be running with them again. He looks to be the horse with most room for improvement and hopefully, now back at altitude, he can pick up his second win. Lyle Hewitson, who last rode Mythical Bolt when he won his maiden, is back aboard.
Top weight is State Trooper and he is currently in good form. Roy Magner’s charge has a win and four places in his last fi ve races and with Muzi Yeni up, he should be a contender.
Yeni has developed a good rapport with the four-year-old geld-ing and has ridden him to two of his three wins. Talktothestars is now at a level where he is again competitive and ran a cracker at the Vaal last week when third behind Whorly Whorly.
He is ge ing on but at seven years old still can be competitive and needs to be included in all bets. Craig Zackey takes the ride this time.
Mount Keith was in good form during the winter months and notched up a couple of wins. His rat-ing went up 10 points for those two wins and he reached a point where he was no longer competitive.
However, it has come back three points and that should help him.
In addition, trainer Ashley Fortune has en-gaged Piere Strydom who has a good record on this horse with a win and a 0.30-length second behind Carbon Atom in his two rides.
