Wylie Hall to make the News

Wylie Hall was strongly fancied to win the Sansui Summer Cup but could only manage to finish sixth, beaten 4.25 lengths by Yorker.

In that event the Weiho Marwing-trained runner had to give weight all round but on Sunday at Turffontein, Wylie Hall is weighted to win the Grade 3 London News Stakes over 1800m and he could provide punters with a Pick 6 banker on what is a tricky card. There is a R500,000 Pick 6 carryover with a predicted pool of R1.75 million.

Tellina was third in the Summer Cup, 2.75 lengths in front of Wylie Hall, but there is now a weight turnaround of 5kg in favour of Marwing’s runner. Killua Castle ran fourth and is 4.5kg worse off.

As most of the opposition ran in the Summer Cup, Wylie Hall should have the measure of this field.

One also might need to look at Knock On Wood. Although the Ormond Ferraris-trained runner finished 2.05 lengths behind Wylie Hall and is 1kg worse off, that was his second outing after a layoff. He subsequently ran a three-length fourth behind Whiteline Fever over 1600m at this course and could provide Wylie Hall with his stiffest opposition.

The other feature is the Listed Sea Cottage Stakes over 1800m, which contains some three-year-olds who look to have promising futures. Trainer Mike de Kock has always had high hopes for Taarish and he showed his ability with a facile win over this course and distance last time out.

De Kock also saddles unbeaten Moofeed and S’manga Khumalo gets the ride.

Heart Of A Lion has raced in features in three of his last four starts and jockey Piere Strydom has always felt this gelding needs more ground. He gets the opportunity to prove that point as the gelding tackles further than 1600m for the first time.

Geoff Woodruff also has two talented runners in Rake’s Chestnut and Louis The King. With Robbie Fradd aboard facile maiden winner Rake’s Chestnut, he appears the right one, although Glen Hatt is in town to ride Louis The King.
