Leading Western Cape jockey Aldo Domeyer looks on target to open and close the Durbanville meeting today.
And he could have had further success had Waiting For Rain not been scratched from the main race, Race 7.
Domeyer could get punters away to a winning start in Race 1 when aboard three-year-old Bernie out of the Candice Bass-Robinson’s stable and contests a Maiden Plate over 1400m.
The colt was a runner-up in his last three outings and the fitting of blinkers for the first time could enhance his chances of exiting the maiden ranks.
Race 8 could see Domeyer close the meeting on a winning note aboard Michael Robinson-trained March Affair in a Maiden Plate (F&M) over 1800m. The three-year-old has improved with each run – the best of which was in her most recent outing when making her Durbanville debut and running on strongly to finish a promising second over 2000m.
With the scratching of Waiting For Rain in Race 7 a MR 84 over 1800m, his stablemate Friendly Tibbs could step up to take top honours.
This seven-year-old is a seven-time winner from 68 starts.
Friendly Tibbs was in the runner-up spot in his last two outings and should go one better without Waiting For Rain in the field.
The best of the others are Our Emperor, The Slade and Silver Rose.
