Time to Make It Raine in the Cape

Trainers Justin Snaith and Brett Crawford dominate Race 6 at Kenilworth tomorrow, a MR 89 Handicap for fil­lies and mares over 1200m. There are eight runners with four from the Snaith yard and three trained by Crawford.

The Crawford trio look the ones to follow in a tricky handicap. He saddles Reine Tonnerre, Make It Raine and China Pearl and could well make up the Trifecta. Aus­tralian-bred Make It Raine has the most potential. This daughter of New Approach has only raced five times for three wins, two over the course and distance and the last over 1000m at Kenilworth.

Inexperience and bad behaviour cost her a win in her second outing but she was mowing down the opposition and ran just 1.85 lengths behind Pixelate. Her second was after a rest in a strongly contested Conditions Plate and it came after a layoff. Greg Cheyne takes the ride.

China Pearl is ultra-consistent and based on her last run holds stable companion Reine Tonnerre. However, it is worth noting stable jockey Corne Orffer has opted to ride Reine Tonnerre and handed the China Pearls reins over to Donovan Dillon.

Snaith saddles Acaciawood, Nordic Breeze, Azarenka and Trip The Willow and on their last meeting there is not much to choose between Azarenka, now 2.5kg better off, and Make It Raine.

But that was over 1000m and Ramsden’s runner is far better over this extra 200m.

Candice Bass-Robinson could spoil the party for both should Wake Up Maggie live up to her name.
