One Direction is up through the divisions
One Direction probably found 1200m on the short side but still did very well to chase the short-priced winner Rock Of Africa home in August.
The Justin Snaith-trained One Direction looks a promising colt and is reportedly very highly rated by the yard and Race 7, a MR 72 Handicap over 1600m at Kenilworth today could be another stepping stone towards this Silvano colt aiming at forthcoming feature races.
One Direction probably found 1200m on the short side but still did very well to chase the short-priced winner Rock Of Africa home in August.
That debut effort suggested One Direction would not be in maiden company for very long so it was no surprise that in his second start the colt was a 3-10 favourite and although only a 0.40 length winner did appear to have something in hand when beating Logan over the Kenilworth 1400m.
Like most of the Silvano progeny he is expected to get better with both age and over further distances.
The 1600m of this race should not be a problem and One Direction has cracked pole position draw.
With Richard Fourie taking a fall this month Snaith has opted for top rider in S’manga Khumalo.
There are a couple of three-year-olds set to tackle him who look to have potential.
One of them is Craven who will be representing the very much in form Brett Crawford yard.
This Dynasty colt found a lot of betting support on debut and just failed to get the upper hand of stable companion The Great One on debut.
The merit of that win was enhanced with The Great One winning again subsequently.
Craven was also to win his next start and did so without much fuss beating Ice Ridge by two lengths.
Jockey Andrew Fortune was aboard him that day and is back on Craven.
The Dean Kannemeyer-trained The Slade has not been disgraced in his three starts and deserves some respect.
Some above average runners will also go to the post for Race 2, a Graduation Plate over 1600m.
The very early scratching of Lineker has left only six runners for this race and with both Crawford and Ramsden having two runners each it could be interesting.
The vote to win will go to the Australian-bred Newlands.
This promising three-year-old has done well in his three starts to date and a returning from a break that saw him being gelded.
Stable jockey Donovan Dillon is aboard Newlands ahead of A New Dawn.
That could be a nice guide as A New Dawn is holding his form well and his fitness is not in doubt.
The Crawford duo of Whisky Baron and Carbon Offset are not to be lightly dismissed.
