Tellytrack goes local

Horseracing's digital satellite television channel Tellytrack will change its programming to focus primarily on local racing, CEO of Gold Circle, Michel Nairac said on Tuesday.

These changes would take effect at the end of February.

South Africa’s exclusive horseracing channel covered race meetings locally and abroad, and screened reruns of all the world’s major horse races. The channel also carried horseracing news from around the globe.

Programming would now shift towards local racing and news while overseas racing news would be curtailed.

The situation had arisen after a financial agreement could not be reached between the concerned parties.

“There have been several meetings but at present no final decisions had been reached in regard to the structure of the payments,” Nairac said.

He was still hopeful some sort of compromise could be reached but said South African racing would take preference on the channel and it would no longer be interrupted by overseas racing as was currently the format.

This could eventually lead to a separate satellite channel for overseas racing.
