Tara’s charge could arrive Unannounced

Unannounced looked to have loads of potential and a bright future after reeling off six wins from his first six runs. He finished a one-length second to Depardieu, also a fairly good horse at the time, in his seventh outing, the Listed Byerley Turk over 1400m but was then used as a pacemaker for fancied stable companion Varity Club in the Grade 2 KZN Guineas over 1600m at Greyville.

Having done his job, Unannounced faded out in straight to finish last of the eight runners, beaten 16.50 lengths. Since then this Australian import has not been the same. He has raced 12 times and the best he could manage in that period was a 5.25-length third place behind Captain’s Secret in the Non-Black Type Marula Sprint over 1200m at Clairwood.

Now six years old, Unannounced has turned up in Port Elizabeth and is under the care of Tara Laing. He has not raced since December last year but will be aiming to regain some of his old form when he runs in this race on the Fairview turf.

It is worth noting that his merit rating has come down from 106 to 76, a drop of 15kg, and that alone should make him competitive in this field. Raymond Danielson is carded to ride.

The connections of Sedge will be delighted racing has returned to the turf because their runner somehow failed to be ignited on the Polytrack. He has a record of two wins and two places from seven runs over the course and distance and must be in with a decent chance in this company.

Justin Snaith saddles Money For Love who has scored twice and placed eight times in 13 starts over the course and distance and must come under consideration, especially with champion jockey S’manga Khumalo in the irons.
