In the Guineas Trial – Race 7 – the winner should come from either Mike de Kock-trained Trip To Rio, ridden by Anthony Delpech, or Charles Laird’s charge, Split The Breeze, with Anton Marcus up.
Delpech was full of praise for Trip To Rio’s victory over Lisnoble in a MR 73 Handicap over 1600m on the Turffontein inside track last month but admitted his mount was still “dumb”. He is learning with every run and should be the runner to beat.
Split The Breeze has won twice – over 1000m and 1200m – but is untried over this distance. His form is decent, having finished just two lengths behind Afrikaburn at level weights in a Juvenile Plate last season. He is by Brave Tin Soldier who won over 1600m at Group level so the distance should not be a problem.
