We are just two days away from the announcement of the final field for this year’s R5- million Betway Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 25 November.
Of the 43 original entries, we are down to just 34 and that will be whittled down to just 20.
Connections will get a final chance to supplement a runner into the race today after which the weights will be announced.
According to the rules top weight will be 60kg with a maximum of just 6kg separating the top from the bottom weights. The final field cannot exceed 20 runners.
Muzi Yeni revealed on Saturday that he would be riding KwaZulu-Natal raider Royal Victory for trainer Nathan Kotzen, in the Grade 1 race.

The official barrier draw for the final field of the 2023 Betway Summer Cup will take place on Wednesday at Marabi Club in downtown Johannesburg. The race was launched officially last Tuesday by both 4Racing and sponsor Betway where some of the exciting event on the day at Turffontein were revealed.
Celebrated deejay, DJ Zinhle and popular hitmaker Lady Du were announced as the performers for the Half Time Show and official After Party of the Betway Summer Cup, with Joburg’s top socialites set to walk the event’s red carpet on the day.
Celebrities and influencers such as Big Brother Titans 2022 winner; Khosi Twala, fashion influencer; Phumza Tiya and musician Ricky Tyler, were among those who attended the Summer Cup media launch.
“We are delighted to have been able to bring together our partners, media partners, and guests, as we build up to the final stretch of what is set to be an exciting Betway Summer Cup,” said Fundi Sithebe, 4Racing CEO.

Betway’s Jonathan Blumberg added: “This year the partnership has already yielded even greater results, with grooms being the ultimate winners, as all participating grooms in the final field of the Betway Summer Cup will walk away with R20 000 each.”
A Pick 6 carryover of R2 million has already been announced with the pool likely to reach R10 million and there will also be a Quartet carryover to the Summer Cup of R1 million with a likely pool of R4 million.
