Strathdon could Gimme One Night for punters to celebrate
The real concern is the weights.
Horses recovered but Maximum Flo is euthanised.
Thirty five minutes after possibly being crowned kings of the 2019 Grade 1 Sun Met with Queen’s Plate winner Do It Again, the bang in-form combination of Justin Snaith and Richard Fourie are most likely to be seen in the winner’s enclosure with Strathdon (22-10) following the running of the Grade 2 New Turf Carriers Stayers over 2800m.
This smashing son of Silvano proved he was an above average thoroughbred when on a four-run winning streak in late 2017, and in his defence, he really hasn’t been disgraced since, only running out of the money twice in seven appearances.
You can expect winning improvement when he renews rivalry with the Brett Crawford-trained Gimme One Night who is great value for money, trading at 5-1.
This five-year-old son of Gimmethegreenlight has not only bettered Strathdon in their last two bouts but will also be looking to register a fourth consecutive triumph, over trips ranging from 2400m to 3200m.
This proves that staying is not a concern for champion jockey Lyle Hewitson’s mount.
The real concern is the weights.
To put it into perspective, Gimme One Night shouldered 7.5kg more than Snaith’s charge in a Grade 3 recently and an even heavier 8.5kg in his penultimate start – unfortunately for him – they now meet on identical weight terms of 59kg.
This suggests that he will struggle to confirm superiority over his peer despite the fact he is drawn at an advantageous No 5 as opposed to the wide No 13 his foe has to contend with.
“Gimme One Night is in the form of his life, but this is far tougher at the weights,” admit-ted his conditioner.
“He stays well though so don’t rule him out,” he concluded.
Snaith-trained Magnificent Seven was in desperate need of the run when seventh in his most recent effort.
This six-time winner could prove the joker in the pack. Don’t leave him out!
The Quartet looks catchable.
