Start the weekend off well

The Argentinian-bred gelding was an impressive winner over 1300m in June when drawing away to beat The Captain’s Cat but disappointed in his penultimate start. That was over 1600m, but last time out the return to 1300m worked well with Weekend Temper outlasting a game Clifton Surf.

Jockey Andrew Fortune was aboard Weekend Temper last time out and he should give it every chance of winning again from a good inside draw.

Supporters of the Jacques Strydom-trained Gogetthesherrif will point out that Kalamain was 0.75 lengths back and is 1.5 kg worse off but I am expecting the improving four-year-old to overcome that obstacle and gain revenge in Race 7.

Kalamain seemed to get caught out of his ground that day and from an inside draw jockey Greg Cheyne should not be making that same mistake again.

Symbolik won his latest start easily but picked up a five-point penalty for that win.

Three decent three-year-olds are set to fight out Race 2 and once again most punters might opt for the mount of fortune Dynamic Speed. The Querari colt had a slow start when trying this surface in the Grade 3 Champion Juvenile Cup over 1400m last time, finishing a 4.75-length fifth behind Prince Of Thieves.

The Alan Greeff-trained Nottinghamshire showed promise in his debut win and was only narrowly beaten next time out but tries the Polytrack for the first time.

Cruzcampo was full of running when winning on debut and followed that up with a solid success over Rosslyn Chapel at this track. This field is stronger but he deserves the utmost respect.

Jockey Cheyne also can be worth following in Race 8 with Big Freeze. This Western Winter gelding flew up late last time out and is clearly taking a fancy to the Polytrack. A wide draw will have to be overcome and he will need a decent pace.

Another Greeff inmate, Enkidu, won despite racing green on debut and will have supporters to follow that up as he does look worth a few wins. But he can’t afford to be that green in this stronger company in Race 5.
