Tobie Spies-trained True Words, who cost R2-million as a yearling, proved too good for his opposition last time in the Kimberley 1400m at Flamingo Park and this three-time winner should be up to the task with Jarryd Penny aboard again at the same venue today when stepping out in Race 7, the Flamingo Park Handicap (Non-Black Type) over 1800m.
This four-year-old’s resounding win in the Kimberley 1400m was due reward as he had been holding form in big fields at the Vaal and Turffontein.
In his last win, this three-time winner gave a clear indication he will be equally effective over the extra distance. With the advantage of a favourable inside draw he will be tough to beat.
Expect a strong challenge from four-time winner Town Flyer (Nicholas Patel) who comes off three bright runs over 1800m with Patel up.
This five-year-old followed up a second with a re-sounding eight-length win in a Pinnacle Stakes, and then was a runner-up in a MR 78 Handicap.
The gelding will be up against stronger opposition but with 52kg on his back he deserves respect.
Also not to be ruled out is Charter Jet (apprentice Kabelo Matsunyane) out of Bill Human’s stable.
This five-year-old had Matsunyane up in her last two starts when second over 1300m, and then a four-length winner from Town Flyer over 1800m.
Next best are Brookie, Notacademicatall and Sea le Sunset. In the minor events, Dennis Cason-trained Fleur Du Cap could come to light in Race 4; and Corrie Lensley-trained Jonathan (Muzi Yeni) rates the best bet on the card when lining up in Race 9.
