Speedy Alfredo to score
Captain Alfredo is a bit of a tearaway sort so it was a bit surprising the Captain Al gelding was dropped off the early pace on his Eastern Cape debut.
GOOD BET. Captain Alfredo can put punters in good spirits and is expected to win Race 4 at Fairview today.
Trainer Justin Snaith went through a lean patch with his runners in the Eastern Cape but they are back in good form and both Captain Alfredo in Race 4 and China Express in Race 8 could do well for punters at Fairview today.
Captain Alfredo is a bit of a tearaway sort so it was a bit surprising the Captain Al gelding was dropped off the early pace on his Eastern Cape debut in April by jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe. In retrospect he did well to finish 1.75 lengths behind Normanz who he meets again.
It was a different story next time out in May as Piere Strydom decided to let the five-year-old stride and he was most impressive, drawing right away from his rivals to win by four lengths.
Feature race of the day is the East Cape Paddock Stakes (Listed) over 1600m and although it is a very big field of fillies and mares we should get a big run out of the Alan Greeff-trained Beataboutthebush.
This Gimmethegreenlinght filly won her first three starts but found it tougher after that as she earned one victory in her next four starts. Admittedly Beataboutthebush did find 2000m too far in the East Cape Oaks and she was probably just in need of her last run when fourth behind stable companion Clear Sailing last time.
This distance suits her and jockey Greg Cheyne knows her well enough to get the best out of her.
Another runner who has had a good year is Classify in Race 7 over. The Dorrie Sham-trained five-year-old has won three races this year, with two of them coming over this course and distance.
