Soqrat also entered for Hawaii Stakes

Trainer Mike de Kock has clearly left his options open for Soqrat as the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate runner-up has been entered for both the SA Classic (Grade 1) over 1800m and the Hawaii Stakes (Grade 2) over 1400m on Saturday 2 March.

As winner of the Grade 1 Cape Guineas Soqrat also qualifies as a potential SA Triple Crown champion if he can still win the SA Classic and the SA Derby.

However, De Kock has already stated that Soqrat is not certain to run in the Classic and will definitely not line up in the SA Derby.

In fact, on Champions Day, 30 March, Soqrat’s mission will be the Grade 1 Horse Chestnut Stakes over 1600m.

He has drawn beautifully in stall No 4 for the Hawaii Stakes and as he has not raced since the Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth on 5 January, De Kock could well see that as a better option for the three-year-old.

Another interesting entry is Cirillo, who justified his tag as the best bet of the day at Kenilworth on Sun Met day when running out an easy winner of the CTS 1200.

Unfortunately, he has landed No 18 draw.Supplementary entries close at 11am on Friday and declarations close at 11am on Monday.

Entries for the R400,000 Hawaii stakes (Grade 2) over 1400m at Turffontein on Saturday 2 March.
