Snaith runners top boards for features

The two Grade 1 races for three-year-olds and three-year-old fillies will be run over 2000m at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday.

Investec Cape Derby and KRA Guineas winner Legislate has been priced up favourite at 18-10 to win the Daily News with SASCOC Triple Crown champion Louis The King second favourite at 7-2. On a form line through Alec Laird-trained Bezanova Louis The King has a slight edge over Legislate. However, the son of Dynasty does have the advantage of having raced – and having won – over the Greyville track when he beat Bezanova by three lengths to take the Guineas.

But the balance tilts back into Louis The King’s favour when it comes to the draw. Geoff Woodruff’s charge is perfectly placed in barrier No 2 while Legislate will jump from No 11 draw. Kevin Shea has the ride for the first time on the son of Black Minnaloushe.

It is quite surprising to see Captain America as short as 9-2. Brett Crawford’s charge was well beaten by Legislate in both the Cape Derby and the Guineas and although there were excuses for the Kenilworth run, Captain America had every chance in the Guineas and on form looks unlikely to reverse the two defeats.

The same is true of Rake’s Chestnut who is at 8-1. He looks a decent sort and has improved with gelding but he is 9.5kg out with the two leading contenders on handicap and also was withdrawn from his warm-up run for the race. But most of the bookmakers’ decision is probably due to Anton Marcus taking the ride.

As You Like, second to Louis The King in both the SA Classic and SA Derby, is at 10-1 and his style of running could be suited to Greyville. He is a little one paced but is a relentless galloper.

Cape Fillies Guineas winner In The Fast Lane is 7-2 favourite for the Woolavington 2000. She finished third behind Maybe Yes in the KRA Fillies Guineas but neither the winner nor runner-up Not Sulking is contesting this race. In The Fast Lane will undoubtedly prefer the extra 400m and looks to be a worthy favourite. Mike Bass-trainer Lanner Falcon, fourth in the Guineas, is next best at 6-1 with Grade 1 Empress Club Stakes winner Along Came Polly at 7-1. However, Gavin van Zyl’s charge will have to overcome a wide draw.

Although untested at this level, the best value could lie with Crawford’s charge, Zacharias, who has won her last four starts, all in handicap company and against older horses. Last year she finished a 2.55-l3ngth eighth behind In The Fast Lane I the Grade 2 Choice Carrier Championships over 1400m at Kenilworth, despite jumping from No 16 draw.
