Some difficult races should make for decent exotics payouts at Kenilworth today and clearly the race of the day is the expected clash between Chevauchee and Bela-Bela in Race 5 over 1400m.
Both these fillies appear high class after winning their debuts.
The Australian-bred Chevauchee won a 1200m maiden event at Kenilworth last month beating Honest Ally by 1.50 lengths.
This High Chaparral filly was slow away but was doing her best work late and drew away to win comfortably.
The Dynasty three-year-old Bela-Bela was also slow away when winning in August by 1.25 lengths over Sandton Rocker.
Jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe was aboard both of them and will be aboard Chevauchee so that may point to her as the more likely winner.
Jockey Sean Cormack will be riding Bela-Bela.
Fayd’Herbe will also be aboard the likely winner of Race 3 in that he rides another Australian import Duke The Duke.
This colt is improving with every run and from a good draw the Duke Of Marmalade colt could be at his best over this longer straight.
Ritmo Total and The Best Of Me look the main dangers to the selection.
In The Cruise looked an unlucky loser last time out when caught too far out of his ground.
The Western Winter four-year-old carried a big weight that day and could be a bit fitter this time out when he turns out in Race 6.
Jockey Greg Cheyne should get a great run out of In The Cruise from his pole position draw.
Sheer Trouble is a hard-knocking four-year-old who deserves respect and will be dangerous.
Blinkers seems to have done the trick on Shout and he is worth at least an Eachway interest in Race 7.
Shout found traffic problems when only a length behind Shishangeni last time out.
This course and distance should suit.
Trainer Mike Bass trains Shout and the yard will also be expecting another good run from their filly Arabian Winter in the eighth, and last, race.
Arabian Winter is holding her form well and this could well be the type of field that she can beat.
