Saint Donan can finally break out

Saint Donan the mount of Andrew Fortune could be ready to get out the maiden ranks by winning Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Kenilworth today.

After finishing sixth to Act Of War on 25 October last year the owners of Saint Donan must have been expecting a win in the very near future but unfortunately that did not happen.

The Dolph Maeder-trained three-year-old was well backed to win his next start over the same course and distance but proved very disappointing when only fifth beaten 4.25 lengths by Without Permission.

The Kildonan gelding seemed to find the 1400m a bit too far on that occasion so was dropped in trip for his next three starts.

A fourth place finish to subsequent three- time winner Triptique was promising enough and then Saint Donan was runner-up to both Casual Fan and Captain Great over this track and trip.

Mike Bass-trained Panga Panga is holding his form well and looks the biggest threat to Saint Donan.

This Fort Wood gelding has tended to lack a strong finish in his recent starts but will also be suited to this shorter trip.

Watch the betting on the first timer Viking Voyage as this Trippi gelding is out of a Danehill mare.
