Stephanie Miller-trained Roquebrune, who posted a gutsy eighth career win last time in a 1400m Pinnacle Stakes at Flamingo Park, could be up to the task today when teamed up with Ryan Munger again in Race 8, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m.
The shorter distance this time should not be a concern as his previous win saw him score impressively under 60kg by an increasing 4.25 lengths in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m – the same weight he carried in his subsequent win.
This six-year-old son of Var should seize the opportunity and complete the double as he will be carrying 60kg once again.
The gelding’s main threat is eight-time winning mare Rock A Bye Baby (Muzi Yeni) out of Corrie Lensley’s stable.
Yeni was aboard three runs back when she scored a close win under 56kg in a 1000m Pinnacle Stakes.
The combination was not disgraced next time when third under 59kg in the 1000m Flamingo Park Sprint.
Her subsequent unplaced run can be ignored as she had a maximum claiming apprentice aboard in 1300m Pinnacle contest.
Vast improvement can be expected this time when dropping back to 1000m and carrying 56kg.
Look for improvement from Sarel von Willingh Smit’s five-time winner Bletchley with Francois Herholdt up who returns from a short break.
The gelding was not up to scratch in his last two outings in tough company after having posted a decisive double over the course and distance.
The pick of the others are All About The Bass, Sweet Pleasures and Modjadji.
