Right-handed turn to suit St Tropez at Greyville
Many visiting runners are having their warm-up runs for bigger events in KwaZulu-Natal later in the season and that is the case in Race 6 at Greyville today.
CONDITIONS SUITED. Arion is the best handicapped runner in race 6 at Greyville today but he might find St Tropez hard to beat.
The three leading protagonists in this Progress Plate over 1600m on the turf all come from Cape Town and it looks likely that Arion, Ultimate Dollar and St Tropez will fight this out. Although St Tropez is at an 8kg disadvantage with Arion on handicap, Joey Ramsden’s charge could be the horse to beat. He is highly rated by the stable but has been beaten in his last two starts because he hung right in straight, only stopping when he got to the outside rail.
He now races on a right-handed track and if he still hangs to the right, it will see him hug the inside rail which will be a massive advantage. It is also could be relevant that Ramsden has engaged Anthony Delpech for the ride.
Arion won the Grade 2 Peninsula Handicap over 1800m at Kenilworth so he must be respected. Greg Cheyne rides.
