Put the cash in a humidor

A difficult racecard awaits punters at Scottsville today but one horse who could be better than his current mark is Humidor in Race 3, a MR 86 Handicap over 1200m.

This Miesque’s Approval gelding clearly needed his run when only fourth to Maachaan on the Polytrack in October but followed that up with two good wins.

Both those wins were over this course and distance.

He beat Jason Argo by a length in October then returned to the track in December to thrash Oh Boy by three lengths.

Jockey Anton Marcus was aboard him for both those wins and has stuck with him again.

The handicappers have tried to throw a spanner in the works by penalizing him seven points for his latest win but that may still not be enough to anchor Humidor.

Fortissimo, Cutting Edge and Sylvester The Cat all clearly have ability but they will be giving at least 5kg to Humidor who looks progressive.

A runner who might be of Eachway interest is Sacred Jewel in Race 5, a MR 64 Handicap over 1600m.

This five-year-old has dropped to a mark that could see him pop up and win.

Sacred Jewel was running on when not disgraced in fourth place behind All Together Now over this course and distance recently.

There are some tough looking handicaps in races 6 and 7, and the winners will not be easy to find. A large spread of runners will be needed for the exotics.

Wind Singer was full of running when winning her maiden race in just her second start and is well drawn so gets the narrow vote in Race 6.

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained Noordhoek Ice might prefer going back to racing on the turf and is a sporting chance to win Race 7, a MR 64 Handicap over 1600m.
