Pumpkin Queen to show class

Dean Kannemeyer-trained Pump-kin Queen should be rewarded for consistency with a fourth career win when teamed up with Keagan de Melo in Race 3 and top-rated event at Scottsville today – a MR 86 Handicap (F&M) over 1600m.

This daughter of Fort Wood followed up a close second at Scottsville with a resounding three-length win over 1600m at the same venue.

Then switched to Greyville for her two subsequent runs, she was a creditable third over 1600m, and a fast-finishing neck third in a 1600m Pinnacle Stakes.

With De Melo up again and re-turning to Scottsville, the combination will be tough to beat.

However, she will have to be on guard against Paul Lafferty-trained Generous Lady (Anton Marcus) who has also been holding form well.

This three-year-old was a clear-cut winner three runs back over 1400m at Scottsville and followed up with a gallant second at Greyville over 1600m.

Then coming off a short rest and ridden by Marcus for the first time she was a smart winner over 1400m at the same venue.

Also to be respected is Dennis Bosch-trained one-time winner Ella’s World (Warren Kennedy) who is at the bottom of the weights with only 53kg to shoulder.

Another who could make her presence felt is four-time winner Lady Li Lay (Gareth Wright) out of the in-form stable of Andre Nel.

Turning to the minor events, top-flight jockey Marcus is likely to claim a major share of the spoils.

His first strike should come in Race 1 when aboard Garth Puller-trained Uncle Charlie, and he is likely to follow up in Race 2 when teamed up with Song Of The Forest.

Marcus could also come to light in Race 4 when lining up with Unilateral.
