Normanz back on Polytrack
Clearly the Greyville Polytrack is respected by trainer Charles Laird as his Grade 1 winner Normanz returns to racing today in Race 1, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m.
BACK IN ACTION. Normanz, pictured winning the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint at Scottsville, returns to racing after a layoff in Race 1 at Greyville on Sunday.
Last seen when winning The Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m at Scottsville in May this talented but quirky gelding gets the services of Anton Marcus.
Normanz is at his very best when allowed to dictate matters so it will be interesting to see if those tactics are employed with his first taste of the Polytrack.
Stable companion Pej is a decent back up to have for the yard as she showed good pace throughout when winning at this track last month. With the 4kg claim of apprentice Callan Murray she gets 10.5kg from Normanz.
Showmetheway picked up six points for his good third to Fly By Night in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint run in June but could need this outing.
The Mike de Kock yard could be the stable to be with for exotics Osteria in Race 4 and Rockaberry Lane in Race 5 are possible bankers. The meeting will feature a R300,000 Pick 6 carryover, with a projected pool of R1.7-million.
Osteria raced green on debut but found her best stride late to win easily over 1000m at this track in June. The step up to 1400m should suit this Brazilian bred three-year-old.
Rockaberry Lane might not be as progressive as her stable companion but the step up to 1400m should see her make a bold bid of winning a FM 86 Divided Handicap. Jockey Anthony Delpech was aboard this filly when she broke her maiden in March and gets this ride after Muzi Yeni and Bryan Claassen were given chances.
