New Night Racing season around the corner
Turffontein Racecourse’s much anticipated Night Racing season returns on Tuesday, 28 October and has welcomed the media partnership of The Citizen newspaper.

The season kicks off with a fantastic card of races including the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m and the Listed Java Handicap over 2450m.
The first meeting of the season is set to be a cracker. Turffontein’s City Decks are the ideal place to take in the thrill of the thoroughbreds whilst Joburg’s CBD provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxed evening out.
In celebration of the opening of the season, Turffontein Racecourse will be offering a dinner special which includes a traditional lamb on the spit with accompaniments. Gentle music will be performed live between the races and a special behind the scenes tour of the racecourse can be booked at no charge when making your dinner reservation.

We are extremely pleased to welcome The Citizen to our stable and certain that this partnership will ensure the growth and appreciation of Night Racing”.
The first night meeting of the season will also play host to the media launch of the Racing. It’s a Rush International Jockeys’ Challenge which takes places on November 15 and 16 in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively. This series is a highlight on the calendar and sees South Africa’s top jockeys take on a formidable team of international jockeys.
Being three months into the Highveld season and that fact coupled with the forgiving ground and the dairness of the track aslo make it a good meeting for trainers to introduce or step up the programs of their better youngsters. Therefore the three Maiden Plates scheduled on the card are likely to reveal some exciting potential.
The Night Racing season extends into the warm summer months of 2015 whilst the dates to diarise for this year’s meetings are 2, 16 and 30 December.
