Now everyone knows these jockeys mean business in the RACING IT’S A RUSH International Jockeys’ Challenge, writes Henk Steenkamp.
It was a fierce battle at Fairview on Friday in the first leg of the Challenge, which produced some breathtaking rides. South Africa is leading by 219 points to 202 after the four Fairview races.
French jockey Aureline Lemaitre scored 59 points for the International team and Anton Marcus doing the best for South Africa with 56 points.
The table is set for another feast of racing when the second leg takes plays on Saturday at Turffontein in Johannesburg.
Although the South African team will enjoy the lead it can change in one race at Turffontein. It was a historical day for Port Elizabeth racing, hosting the Challenge for the first time and also starting the meeting with their first Workriders race.
The comments by the Fairview trainers best described the day, with Choppies McLachlan saying it was lovely that PE could host the event, Dorrie Sham describing it as an fantastic day and Grant Paddock calling it a special day for PE Racing.
South Africa’s star on the day, Marcus, had the last word, warning that the Challenge is far from over with four races left. Don’t miss them at
Turffontein.
