Race 6 will be the Grade 3 Champagne Stakes contested over 1200m and Mike Bass looks to hold the strongest hand with three runners.
There has not been too much between the three – Lanner Falcon, Pure Power and Surfer Girl – when they have met so it is probably best to see who the stable jockey is aboard.
That being Lanner Falcon, let us have a look at her recent form.
This four-year-old Trippi filly has won two of her last three starts and was only beaten 0.45 lengths by Pure Power in the run between the wins.
Lanner Falcon was impressive when she won over 1000m indicating her class and versatility in May.
She smashed Promicing Polly by 3.75 lengths that day.
Punters that take note of weight turnarounds will be quick to point out Lanner Falcon is 10kg better off with Pure Power for the narrow defeat over this course and distance.
That is a huge advantage now in the favour of the mount of Grant van Niekerk.
It is also worth noting that both Van Niekerk and Bass enjoyed a good meeting on Wednesday.
Surfer Girl was a short head ahead of Lanner Falcon on that run and is 11kg worse off.
One filly that could make vast improvement on her last run is the three-year-old Hot Affair.
The daughter of Jay Peg had not run for over a year when fourth to Ntombe (another runner in this race) over 1000m on 27 June; and is unbeaten in two starts over this track and trip.
Jet Supreme was slow away and pulled hard early when runner-up to Cat And The Moon over 1800m last week but has got form over this distance and if she jumps on terms could earn a stake cheque.
Priceless Jewel returns from a lengthy break but always gives of her best and it will not be an easy task to run her out of a place.
