Kingmambo’s Legacy can bank it

Kingmambo’s Legacy probably found the 1600m of his last two starts a bit on the short side of ideal for him and the step up to 2000m could see the gelding win Race 7, a MR 87 Handicap at Greyville today.

The meeting was originally to be run at Scottsville but following the abandonment of the last two races at Scottsville on Sunday and the jockeys’ concerns with the going on the turn between the 800m and 600m marks, a decision was made to move today’s meeting to Greyville with all races on the turf.

In addition the two races not run at Scottsville on Sunday will be moved, as carded, to the Greyville turf track this coming Saturday, 26 December.

Jockey Anthony Delpech seems to get the best out of the Ideal World four-year-old and is back aboard for the Mike de Kock yard.

Kingmambo’s Legacy is also well drawn and could get the run of the race and he has won at this track in the past.

The threat is likely to come from the Frank Robinson-trained Great Rumpus. This six-year-old has been in good form recently and came from last to catch Serissa over 2400m at Greyville just a week ago.

The handicappers have not been kind to him though as they handed Great Rumpus a five point penalty for that win.

Great Rumpus has yet to win in four tries at this course.

Duncan Howells’ runner Ten Gun Salute will have no trouble with the distance but comes into this with a stiff opening mark in the handicap and he will only be receiving 7.50kg from Kingmambo’s Legacy.

Muzi Yeni has been entrusted with this ride.

The De Kock yard may also be the stable to follow in Race 8, a MR 70 Handicap over 2000m with his charge Red Savage.

This Jay Peg gelding won over this distance back in September and was not beaten too far in his two subsequent starts.

A wide draw is an obstacle but it may be a blessing in disguise as he can now be held up for a late run.

The Howells-Yeni combination The Gingerman is improving with every run and should run well in this race.

The step up in trip to 2000m clearly suited The Gingerman last time out and he drew away from Saarikh to win easily.

The lucky last could be fought out by Cherry Orchard, Aventurine, Count Your Luck and Honeysuckle Rose.

Cherry Orchard has held form since being equipped with blinkers but may fall victim to some younger improving fillies.

Aventurine ran her best race to date over this distance last time out and has Delpech aboard.

Count Your Luck will improve on her sprint debut and it is worth noting that Marcus is aboard this time.

Honeysuckle Rose returns from a break but can win if fit.
