Khumalo is In A Rush for win 15

Jockey S’manga Khumalo has enjoyed good success at the top level in the last 10 months, having won three Grade 1 races including the Vodacom Durban July on Sean Tarry-trained and Chris van Niekerk-owned Heavy Metal.

The jockey ended last season on a high and has started this campaign where he left off, having booted home 14 winners in the first 14 days.

He already has a healthy lead of eight winners over Anthony Delpech on the National Jockeys’ Log. His commitment to the challenge of fighting for the jockeys’ title sees him travel to Port Elizabeth today to team up with In A Rush in Race 7 at Fairview, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m.

Gavin Smith-trained In A Rush looks to have this race at his mercy, with the confidence Khumalo is currently showing, and the Windrush gelding looks to be good Eachway value. He is joint favourite with Indian Hawk, who has a money chance, but should shorten by race time.

In A Rush has won over this course and distance before and finished in the money in his only other start. He enjoys racing at Fairview, having registered five of his seven career wins at that venue, and will have a great opportunity of adding to that tally.

In A Rush is carded to carry 62kg and will jump from draw No 2.

Celtic Fire is the best-weighted runner in the race, getting 0.5kg more from In A Rush than would be the case in a handicap, and he will be a factor. Wayne Agrella has been given the ride on the Yvette Bremner-trained seven-year-old gelding and they will jump from draw No 10.

Dorrie Sham sends out The Shark, who always seems to find something to beat him. JP van der Merwe rides the gelding again and The Shark should be running on late. He has the credentials to win but will need things to go his way if he is to win.
