July in Jozi – a great success

Phumelela’s Clyde Basel commented: “July in Jozi seems to becoming a brand on its own. It is now the second biggest event in Gauteng from an oncourse turnover perspective after Gauteng’s SANSUI Summer Cup. When one takes into account that Gauteng hosts some of the best racedays of the season like The Supreme Sand Series, The Peermont Emperors Charity Mile, The SA Triple Crown featuring Guineas Day, Classic Day and Champions Day, July in Jozi has positioned itself as one of the best!”

He continued: “The raceday has a great offering for racing fans who can’t make the trip to Durban. After seeing this year’s attendance numbers and oncourse turnover figures gives reason to push July in Jozi even harder next year.”

There was plenty of glamour on display in keeping with the day’s theme “The Captain’s Table.” Racing It’s A Rush acknowledged the presence of National Championship chasing Gavin Lerena and the festive crowd were able to witness him edge closer to his first title by riding a four-timer and opening the gap on reigning champion S’Manga Khumalo.

Patrons were also able to follow all the action from the Vodacom Durban July meeting. The outstanding TV production from Greyville racecourse drew much praise. On top of the July and numerous other big races, they also kept an eye on Khumalo’s progress at Greyville and he rode two winners to keep his hopes of a second successive championship alive.

Presenting partners Betting World gave away R20 000 in betting vouchers. The alluring display of Mercedes-Benz vehicles were eyed enviously throughout the day and driving experience vouchers and invitations to a day hosted by Mercedes were given away. Two Mercedes-Benz duffle bags valued at R1620 each were won by a couple of lucky racegoers.

There were also some chuffed patrons who were lucky enough to walk away with an exclusive gift from Rixon, a bespoke shirtmakers company.
