Hot Ticket set for Derby double

The so-called Derby and Oaks, traditionally for three-year-olds all over the world, has been given a perpetual life of its own in “The Last Outpost” and horses can now run in this event for as many years as they like.

Hot Ticket won the Derby last year and Dean Kannemeyer’s charge is weighted to do so again. However, he would have preferred it to have been run at Clairwood again with a longer run-in but even at Scottsville he remains the horse to beat, with Disco Al the main threat.

Shingwedzi ran a cracker in the J&B Stayers over 2800m at Kenilworth when third behind Coltrane and with Anton Marcus aboard and back in fillies’ company she could win the Oaks for the Mike Bass yard. Well-weighted Vino Veritas looks the main threat.
